This project focused on analyzing and recreating the style of an assigned artist in addition to combining analog and digital processes in the form of a book cover about an assigned figure. My assigned figure is Mark Twain, and my artist is Tatsuro Kiuchi. Kiuchi works a lot with texture brushes and layering, so I tried to implement that into my own design. I made some analog textures out of paint transfers and applied them to my digital drawing in addition to using photoshop brushes the way Kuichi does. I chose a bright and playful color scheme similar to those found in Kiuchi’s works. I emphasized Twain’s face by making the shelf behind it a darker value, allowing it to pop. I included abstract books and shelves in the background to reference Mark Twain’s career as a writer, in addition to the typewriter font that spells his name across the books.
